The Northern Michigan University Ski Team is currently racing at Soldier Hallow in Midway, Utah. Here is a short update from Ingrid Fjeldheim, part-time assistant from the NMU Ski Team.

We traveled out to Utah on December 27th, with our first race on January 2, 2013 we wanted to come a tad early to try and get as acclimated as possible. Soldier Hallow is about 6,200 feet so it is a substantial amount, just meeting F.I.S. standards. Our first race was this past Wednesday, classic sprint, Felicia Geisor was our top female finisher moving all the way to the B- Final finishing 10th overall for senior women. Chris Bowler was our top male finisher, just missing moving onto the semi-finals by a toe, they had to go back and review tape from his finish. It was his best sprint at Nationals, great start to the week for him.

Today was the 10k/15k skate individual start. It was a beautiful day for racing, sunny and 20-24 degrees for coaching it was perfect! The waxing was pretty straight forward which also helps the stress level on race days. We had the top CCSA (Central Collegiate Ski Association) finishers Rosie Frankowski (30th place) and Erik Soderman (NCAA Naitonal Champion 2012, 19th place). The men had a great day having three men finish in the top 30 (19th, 27th, 29th) is a very respectable day considering most colleges/university teams are here along with senior teams and some United States National Team members. Tomorrow is a training day for the athletes and a big waxing day for the coaches, we will be getting ready for the 20k/30k classic mass start on Sunday.

A BIG thank you to all those who support your local collegiate ski team, it is greatly appreciated!
Think snow!
