After reviewing contract documents from the Michigan DNR for requirements necessary to open the hut during the Covid 19 epidemic, and with having multiple conversations with key members from the Blueberry Ridge Warming Hut committee, we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that it is currently not feasible to safely open the Blueberry Ridge Warming Hut at this time. We have limited resources and the hut is a small space which poses some problems with complying with needed safety recommendations. We realize this is not an ideal situation and coming to this conclusion was not easy since we want more than anything to ski, coach, and warm up and socialize during the upcoming winter. Though we need to accept where we are currently at, if the situation changes and the hut could safely open we would like to do it. So we will continue to monitor things this winter and if at all possible we will re-evaluate to open if and when safety and resources permit.
Until then, we will keep the hut closed. The water will remain off and the doors locked. The propane tank has been filled for the season and the heat will be maintained so the building will remain in good condition. We do have a team in place who have cleaned the hut and we will continue to keep an eye on the closed building with the security cameras on for safety measures. Thanks again for all of your help and assistance with the hut. Be safe and take care!
