It’s been a fun summer, and as temperatures cool and school starts once again, fall is settling into Marquette. BUT, we still have a week of summer left, and we’d like to invite you to celebrate the last day with us by running one of the coolest trail races in Marquette County. Even Smoky the Bear plans to attend.
The XTERRA Lake Superior Shore Trail Run is only eight days away, and there are still opportunities for runners to sign up to race and volunteers to help with the event. Set for Saturday, September 21, 2013, this challenging trail half-marathon and 5k event benefits the youth cross country ski programs through the Superiorland Ski Club of Marquette.
With a start and finish at Little Presque Isle, just north of Marquette, the scenic terrain makes this a can’t miss event year after year for racers. The 19th annual race will honor the King and Queen of the Mountain – the first male and female racers to reach the top of ‘Top of the World’ and ‘Bareback’ with a fun award. Overall first, second and third place winners will receive memberships to CrossFit Marquette. Age group winners will receive a sweet award, thanks in part to Keweenaw Kitchen and several door prizes from community businesses will also be given away.
Smoky the Bear will make an appearance for the free Kids Run, set for 12pm at Little Presque Isle.
